Scale Type Traits

A Kirunhound’s scales are one of it’s defining features and allows for a lot of variations between designs. Scale Location Traits will affect where scales will be placed on a character, reading both of these guides is helpful in creating your design.

  • Scales can be any solid color, and are not controlled by the coat color gene.
  • Small variations within this color is allowed, and some markings will allow for larger alterations of color if the marking is placed over the Kirunhound’s scales.

 

Common:

Standard:

  • No added effects. Scales will be lightly ribbed or rounded.

Uncommon:

Fishback:

Small round scales overlapping in either even or uneven patterns. Similar to fish scales. These may have some color patterning

Jeweled:

Replaces solid scaled areas with large, smooth bubbles of single scales. Size varies between scales.

Barreled:

Long unbroken bars of scales, evenly spaced with flexible middle fibers, which will take some color from the coat color. Similar to armadillo plates.

Step:

Breaks up a scale location to have exposed fur underneath. Size and shape of scale pieces will vary.


Rare:

Broken:

Large uneven plates that stick out from the body, usually with sharp edge notches across the whole body.

Shine:

Adds a glowing effect to the scales, either in small accents and patterns, or as a whole.


Legendary:

Crystal:

Changes the scales into jagged, translucent gem stones.
